Representation theory:
I have created this piece about me,choosing images that best represent who I am and who I want people to see me as.This links to Stuart Halls representation Theory because he argues that the media purposefully constructs representations of reality rather than simply reflecting it to gain meaning .In my collage I have include images of my hobbies, music taste ,friends and family etc which represent me in a certain way to a targeted audience and provide a certain idea about who I am.For example by including the photos of a dancer, I have represented myself as a passionate ,dedicated individual who's hobby is to dance, which an audience could interpret. However if I had also included a picture of my phone, an audience could agree this would contradict the idea and infer me instead as a lazy, undedicated young person.
Reception theory-
This is the way that audiences actually interpret media based off of their own beliefs experiences and environment. For example people with a preferred reading may interpret my dance image in the way that I intended where's people with a negotiated oppositional reading may not interpret this way based on their views of dance. This demonstrates that meanings are not fixed and are instead constructed by society and repeated over time periods, forever altering.
